R. Michael Tuttle, MD Associate Professor of Medicine Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University New York, New York Associate Attending Physician Department of Medicine Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases New York, New York R. Michael Tuttle, MD attended medical school at the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky. He went on to do his internship and residency in internal medicine at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. This was followed by a two-year fellowship in endocrinology and one-year of post-doctoral training in molecular biology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. After three years as a staff endocrinologist at Madigan Army Medical Center, Dr. Tuttle transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. At Walter Reed he served as assistant chief of the Thyroid Clinic, and assistant chief of the Department of Clinical Investigations. Upon leaving the Army, Dr. Tuttle joined the endocrine service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in August of 1999. Dr. Tuttle has a unique combination of expertise in the clinical care of thyroid cancer patients and extensive experience in molecular biology. His primary research interests have been in thyroid cancer, and specifically radiation-induced thyroid cancer. His research efforts have taken him from Kwajalein, Atoll in the Marshall Islands, to the Hanford Nuclear Powerplant in Washington State, to regions downwind of Chernobyl, Ukraine. His clinical research has focused on novel approaches to early detection and treatment of advanced thyroid cancer.
